For vacationers and family gatherings, Stump Sprouts provides the perfect base for visiting local attractions and enjoying the great outdoors. Without going anywhere at all, you can enjoy a variety of wooden games in the rec room over at the barn, enjoy a walk on the land. . Or you can simply relax on the patio and enjoy the view.
If you wish to venture further afield, we are more than happy to assist you with planning day trips of all sorts. Here are a few of the possibilities, some right here and some a short drive away:
Hiking
We maintain hiking trails during the warmer months including the hike to the viewpoint at the top of Lone Boulder Hill and another shorter mowed loop around the meadow. A kiosk in the upper parking lot has a map. We suggest taking a picture of this map and using it out on the trails.
Biking:
The variety of quality cycling experiences in this area is a good as it gets anywhere in the country.
Fat biking/Winter biking
You can do this right here when the conditions permit
Mountain biking - Our trails are great for riding right from our door! You can now ride for a couple of hours right from our door thanks to a combination of new single track that has been created in the last year and our xc ski trail system. Mapped singletrack is also available minutes away in Charlemont. See:Charlemont Trails
Similarly, Marked and mapped trails are open to the public in the Dubuque State Forest right here in Hawley. See Dubuque State Forest Trails
And, there are plenty of other trails at DAR State Forest and Greylock Glen, both 25 minutes from here.
Road biking
The hilltowns of Western Massachusetts have an abundance of lightly travelled, highly scenic paved back roads. This are is home to numerous organized cycling events. We will happily sit down with you and help you plan a route.
Gravel road riding
Hundreds of miles of gravel roads can be accessed from Stump Sprouts or within a few minutes drive. I've ridden most of them and would happily help plan and/or support your adventure. Custom tours and packages can be worked out by special arrangement. One of the oldest, largest, most famous gravel road events, the D2R2 , .franklinlandtrust.org/d2r2 passes right through this town.

Downhill mountain biking

Bike Paths
The Ashuwillticook Rail Trail is an 11.2 mile flat, paved rail trail that runs along lakes, streams and marshes. It is one of the most popular and scenic trails in New England. It is about 20 minutes from here in Adams.
